First of all, what is Vulture Culture and what does it mean?
well a Vulture is a bird that scavenges for things it can find and use, specifically animal remains. right? well I make sculptures and things out of stuff I can find and scavenge for. Mainly working with animal skeletons. (Not to be confused with Culture Vulture, witch has a whole different meaning!) I also study skeletons anatomically through sketches, learning more about animals as I create work.
I make these sculptures for a number of reasons, one being because I have a fascination with the anatomy of animals. I learn a lot about an animal while I'm cleaning, processing and re-articulating It's skeleton! I use broken electronics to get a real cyborg looking creatures skeleton. Cyborg taxidermy if you like. I want to shock viewers into thinking about the impact technology has on animals and nature, by clashing the two things together unexpectedly!
All bones are processed and cleaned to a point where they are 100% safe to handle, using professional methods. All boned are found and either died of natural causes or were unfortunate victims of road kill. No animals are harmed for the purpose of art under ANY circumstance!
